Description

Well, buddy, when I said Santa was still working on your present, I really meant your secret Santa was working on it. Ohohoho. See what I did there?

Anyway, yeah, in some weird twist of fate I got my best friend *kennasaur for the #SMOCT Secret Santa exchange. Now, I was faced with an interesting dilemma. I draw for Kenna on a near-daily basis. By extension, I draw Chronos on a near daily basis--so Kenna getting Chronos art from me is really nothing special. I tried to think of something different, something special for not just my secret santa, but for my very best friend.

Here you go, buddy. She was once an old blond twist n turn barbie collecting dust in my mother's basement. I think she was a favorite of mine growing up, so I'm glad she'll be going to someone who loves her as much as I did. I am packing her up as I write this, buddy, so I will either ambush you at work or mail her to your house. Merry Christmas. Thank you for being the best friend anybody could ever ask for.

Some notes:
+ The watch really does keep time, despite being beaten to death by power tools. It has been hotglued to the bow for (semi) easy removal, in case the batteries go dead.
+ The outfit is completely custom made. The only thing based on a pattern is the gloves, and even those were pretty heavily modified. In fact, the less said about them, the better, but in short: holy crap Vogue patterns are from Mars! Mars, I'm sure of it!
+ The new eyes are Obitus 1/6th eyedecals, from who knows where -- al I know is they went through customs at one point in time.
+ The tiara is from Catzia collectibles - it's really lovely and from what I understand completely handmade, so if you're looking for a good doll-sized tiara they're the place I highly suggest.
+ Miss Chronos is, unfortunately, sewn into her outfit. In the future, I might try to include snaps or velcro, but it's going to take some practice.
+ The shoes are standard barbie pumps, originally black, now painted brown with acrylic paint.
+ My only regret are those sleeves. In the future, I will actually include shoulder guards, but I think these sleeves are still better than a finger in the eye, right?
+ Most of her small parts have been gorilla glued into oblivion, but that's not to say they can't come off. Handle with care!

I know we were told to do nothing ~elaborate~ for our Secret Santas, but before somebody cries foul consider this:

1. I know Kenna in real life. This isn't just her Secret Santa present, this is her "here-Kenna-this-is-from-me, your-best-irl-friend-Marie-Berry" present. We always give each other really awesome presents, so this is me, being lazy and killing two birds with one stone.

2. All in all this took me about six hours - about two hours more than it takes me to do a colored picture, which was what I was going to give anybody else I got for Secret Santa. It really isn't that much more.

I will be posting some comparison pictures in my scraps later, I think, comparing Chronos to my (admittedly weathered) Irwin Sailormoon doll. Spoiler: Chronos is a lot prettier, even when compared to my mint Sailor Mercury/Chibi Moon/Black Lady dolls.

Anyway! I've had a lot of fun with this project. It's been a great stress reliever when I've been working on round 3 of SMOCT and now that Chronos is done, I'm itching to do another one. So, I'm thinking about opening up commissions for otaku senshi barbie dolls. Would anyone be interested?

I was looking at your design and she's beautiful! I'm actually trying to make my own custom senshi doll (out of a Disney Princess Barbie-sized one, not an actual Barbie), and I had a question about the tiara you used. Do you know if Catzia collectibles still sells them? I've been trying like mad to find if she does, but all the tiaras and costume stuff I've seen her selling are for regular people-sized cosplay.
